There’s absolutely nothing wrong with saying “I want to recognize your work in a way that is meaningful to you.” Aside from money—because we all want that – what’s the best way to positively recognize your work?” Encourage peer-to-peer recognition : All recognition doesn’t need to come from management. Managers should encourage employees to give each other accolades when appropriate. It can mean a lot to hear kind words from colleagues.

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS

What is Employee Relations? Employee Relations provides a resource for employees to go to before taking such action like quitting, or not putting effort into work, which harms the employer. To do their best work, employees also need to have someone they can go to for advice about workplace issues especially when they may not be comfortable reporting issues to their manager or discussing them with coworkers. Within CODAC’s Human Resources department there is a designated individual who handles Employee Relations and provides employees and management with this support. • Employee relations is the relationships between the employees and the company itself. • Employee Relations at CODAC is a branch of the Human Resources department that provides direction and oversight for employee related matters like Reasonable Accommodation Requests, formal and informal employee complaints, investigation of harassment and discrimination claims and termination of employees. • Employee Relations acts as a liaison between employees and upper management, creating training material that can assist both the employee and the supervisor. WHAT EMPLOYEE RELATIONS DOES • Employee Relations is the first point of contact for upper and lower-level employees with questions or who need assistance regarding workplace conflicts, internal policy interpretations, and general consultations related to work. Employee Relations focuses on customer-service and expanding workplace communication. • Employee Relations is a neutral section of HR that does not side with certain employees but instead tries to reach solutions that work for all through collaboration. • Employee Relations represents the interests of the company as a whole and makes decisions based on what is right for the entire organization. • Employee Relations facilitates communications between management and direct reports concerning workplace decisions, grievances, conflicts, problem resolutions. • Employee Relations provides a place for employees to confidentially talk about their questions and concerns without fear of negative consequences. With very few exceptions, like when a danger is posed by the information provided or a law is being broken, conversations with Employee Relations staff are kept confidential. PRIMARY REASONS SUPERVISORS SHOULD CONTACT EMPLOYEE RELATIONS FOR GUIDANCE (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO): • Employee has excessive unplanned absences from work • Is (always late) for meetings • Suspected improper use of company internet or materials • Shows little to no respect when speaking to their supervisor (insubordination) • Employee that gets into verbal or physical disputes with co-workers • Constantly gossiping and/or– spreading rumors
