Utility Failure Gas Leaks/Gas Line Break Smelling Gas If someone smells gas, do not attempt to turn off/on any equipment. It is possible that electrical contacts may cause a spark that in turn might ignite the gas. Evacuation Clear the immediate area or evacuate the building, as appropriate. Ensure that everyone present in the building has been evacuated. 1. Notification: Immediately notify the Fire Department (911) and Southwest Gas Company 746-1076 . Program Operations: If program operations must cease, staff should ensure everybody safely exits the building. 6.
